As I was sitting at a red light near Annapolis I noticed my car sway from side to side and heard what I thought was a truck going by. I looked around, no trucks. About a minute after, as I was listening to talk radio discussing how our great Governor of MD wants to take more of our hard earned money by raising taxes, they interrupted the show to say an earthquake of 5.9 just occurred south of DC.
My thought of how cool it was to feel the earth move quickly turned to how the radio personalities over react to such incidents. Granted I realize us novices on the East Coast are not used to this type of event, but I was still amazed how such a small earthquake turned the newscasters into complete idiots. One newscaster actually asked if he should worry if the transmission towers were going to fall.
On the other hand I was amazed at how such a small earthquake could knock-out phone lines for about an hour. What will happen if a real earthquake happened?
Oh well, chalk it up to a neat experience, with no damage or anyone hurt but something we will talk about here on the East Coast for a while. Sorry Californians, at least it gives us something new to talk about other than the heat wave.
